Cabo San Lucas earns its reputation as one of Mexico’s most energetic nightlife destinations. Whether you want a refined rooftop margarita as the sun drops into the Pacific, a glass of Baja wine at a quiet San José del Cabo gallery, or a full-throttle night at El Squid Roe — Cabo delivers. Here’s how to navigate it.
The Classics: El Squid Roe and Mango Deck
No visit to Cabo is complete without at least one night at El Squid Roe — the institution-level nightclub on the Marina that’s been the centre of Cabo’s nightlife since 1984. It’s loud, it’s chaotic, it’s covered in graffiti from every country in the world, and it’s an experience. Entry is free, drinks are moderately priced, and the energy is relentless until 4am.
Next door, Mango Deck is the beachfront bar known for its spring break energy, open-air dancing, and legendary “body shots on the beach” culture. It’s loud, fun, and very much a party venue — ideal for groups in their 20s and 30s.
The Sophisticated Side: San José del Cabo
For a more refined evening, head 20 minutes up the coast to San José del Cabo’s Gallery District. On Thursday evenings during season (November through June), the Art Night walk transforms the neighbourhood — galleries open their doors, wine and cheese flow on the street, and the atmosphere is effortlessly stylish.
Recommended spots in San José:
- The Nowhere Bar — craft cocktails, warm lighting, and a serious drinks program
- La Lupuna — live jazz on weekends in a beautiful courtyard setting
- Casa Nostra — Italian wine bar with an exceptional Baja wine list
- Taberna Baha — open-air rooftop with views over the plaza, perfect for a pre-dinner drink
Sunset Spots
The Cabo sunset is an event in itself. The best spots to watch it:
- The Office on the Beach — Medano Beach, front-row seats to the sunset over Land’s End
- The Cape Rooftop — at The Cape hotel, a rooftop bar with panoramic views
- Villa Paraiso’s terrace — your own private sunset, with cocktails from the in-house bar and no crowds
- Solomon’s Landing — on the Marina, excellent food and prime sunset views
Returning to Villa Paraiso
The beauty of staying at a private villa is that you can have the best of both worlds: a full night out in Cabo San Lucas, and then retreat to your own quiet, luxurious space when you’re done. No packing up, no Uber, no shared resort lobby — just a 20-minute drive back to Palmilla Beach and the quiet of your own terrace.
